Madonna Post-Guy: Drinks with Penn, Mothering Britney?
Madonna reaches out; plus, romance rumors with Lindsay & Sam, Leonardo & Kate, Paris & Benji, Nicollette & David Spade, Amy & Blake and much more ...

Now that Madonna is officially free of Guy Ritchie, is she looking to reconnect with a couple of people from her past? Not only was the Big M recently spied having a drink with her first ex-husband, Sean Penn, but she's also believed to be trying to bring Britney Spears back into her inner circle.

On Wednesday night, Madonna, 50, reportedly raised a glass with Penn at the Greenwich Hotel in New York following her weed-whacked appearance (see above) at a Gucci bash.

Their conversation remains a mystery, although perhaps the former flames were reminiscing about their famously volatile four-year union, which ended in 1989, not long after the well-muscled pop icon filed an assault complaint against the ornery actor.

"They have a nice rapport," a mole tells People. "There's nothing romantic there. They're just good friends."

So good that Penn, who reconciled with wife Robin Wright earlier this year, supposedly text-messaged Madonna after filming his lip-lock scene with James Franco in "Milk," telling her, "I just popped my cherry kissing a guy. I thought of you. I don't know why."

Meanwhile, the London Daily Mail speculates that Madonna is looking to lure Britney back into the Kabbalah fold, a rumor that comes a few weeks after the road-to-recovery-walking popster joined her onstage at the Los Angeles stop of her Sticky & Sweet tour.

"Madonna is determined she can get Britney back into Kabbalah," a source maintains to the paper. "She has offered her a suite of rooms at her apartment in New York and has told Britney she is her surrogate mother."

Oy.

Spears lost interest in the religion in 2006, when she was pregnant with Jayden James. "I no longer study Kabbalah," she announced. "My baby is my religion."

Madonna had initially turned Brit on to the mystical offshoot of Judaism in 2003, the same year they sucked face at the MTV Music Awards. Spears was often seen toting around religious texts (though rarely spied cracking one open) and sporting an evil eye-repelling red string around her wrist.

"Madonna first introduced Kabbalah to me at a time in my life when it was much needed," Britney wrote in March of 2005. "It has helped me get rid of a lot of negative influences that were guiding me down the wrong path ... I was able to look within myself, clear all the negative energy and turn my life around."

According to the Daily Mail's mole, "Britney used to wear the red Kabbalah bracelet and read the books Madonna gave her and she is thinking about giving it another chance."

Still, keep in mind that the carefully monitored popster can't even drink a bottle of Kabbalah water without the go-ahead from dad Jamie, who remains her string-pulling guardian until the court says otherwise.

"Britney wouldn't really comment on that," her rep tells the paper of the red-string rumors. "It's just a case of wait and see what happens."

Madonna, for her part, took comfort in her religion on Friday, the same day a London court dissolved her nearly eight-year union to Ritchie: She was seen at the Kabbalah Center in New York with kids Lourdes, 12, Rocco, 8, and David, 3.

But she was apparently feeling slightly less pious at a concert in Philadelphia the night before. She gave a two-finger salute that may or may not have been directed at her ex, who is rumored to have renounced claims to her $500 million fortune in exchange for equal custody of their sons.

Madonna acknowledged on Sunday that she's relieved to have an outlet to focus her considerable energy instead of dwelling on the split.

"I'm sad about my personal life, but I feel very blessed and very lucky that I have the opportunity to do what I do in my professional life," Madonna explained to The Associated Press. "It would be horrible if I was just thinking about getting a divorce and had nothing to do."

As for Madonna's connection to Alex Rodriguez, who was in New York last week and was recently seen chatting up her BFF Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson at a Miami soiree, the Daily Mail alleges she recently told pals that he's "everything Guy was when they first got together but isn't anymore."

(That supposedly includes a Kabbalah booster, although there are whispers that A-Rod's interest may already be waning.)

"Madonna says she watched Guy turn from a dynamic, witty, suave and funny man when they first met to a middle-aged emotional retard," snipes a snitch. "Madonna says that now the divorce is over, she hopes she can have a civil rapport with Guy for the sake of the children."

Of course, things might be a bit more civil if all these insiders would stop blabbing to the tabloids.

Like the one who tells Britain's News of the World that Madonna was compiling a "damning dossier" on the director in order to strengthen the divorce filing, which cited his "unreasonable behavior," and win custody.

"Madonna was angry because she felt Guy had [reneged] on the deal that they would keep the happily married image going until the end of her current tour," a source tells the tab, adding, "They were like chalk and cheese. It's a miracle they lasted eight years -- and that was down to the kids."

Madonna purportedly had a change of heart on the custody issue -- she is said to have wanted all three tykes to live with her in New York, while Ritchie wanted them to remain in London -- when she overheard Lourdes (her dad is Carlos Leon) on the phone with Guy.

"They were both in tears and told each other they loved and missed each other so much," says the mole. "No mother could fail to be moved by that."
